Collages

Marcelle Cahn’s collages are, without a doubt, the most personal expression of her sensitivity. The Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain de Strasbourg owns nearly 200 of them, bequeathed by the artist in 1980. In March 2004, a small exhibition at the MAMCS presented a selection of these collages.

“Marcelle Cahn’s collages are a kind of theater without a curtain, without characters, without even a subject, and yet full of surprises. I have been under their spell for a long time. It has never faded. Whatever the format of her works — some are miniatures — the monumental asserts itself, and the viewer’s eye imagines them as grand.” Michel Seuphor, 1971.
